gGanttic is out

My pet project, gGanttic is out
You can check it out at www.gganttic.com

gGanttic is a Gantt chart centric online project management that stores tasks in Google Spreadsheets. So you can see the Gantt chart (bar chart) or you can edit your tasks in Google Spreadsheets. Simultaneously with other developers.

I started this project after we tried to use Microsoft Project server. It did not work for us. Lots of logistical and technical problems, even though we brought in expert consultants. And all client access is ActiveX based, so no luck for our Macintosh guys.

Being fascinated about Google applications and Microsoft Silverlight technology I decided to write my own. It currenly is very bare bones. But it will grow.
It shines where it counts (for me) - collaboration and anyplace availability.

Hi Michael,

Is there any plans to make this more Mac friendly? I'm a PM who works with other PM's on multiple projects with PC's and Macs, and think gGanttic could be just the tool for us. Problem is the latest version of Silverlight for PPC is 1.03 ...and the version of Silverlight gGanttic requires: 1.1

...or better yet any plans to work with Flash?

Cheers,
dt

David, and others interested.

We use Silverlight over Flash or Ajax for a reason - it allows us quickly develop functionality and through trial and error find the optimal feature set, to allow power use without sacrificing the ease of use. Once we have our golden standard, we might, and I emphasize might, since it is no commitment, implement it on more platforms.

It might not be necessary though. Silverlight is currently in version 2.0 Beta (April 2008). We are putting a finishing touches on gGanttic for SL2. And we do test it on FireFox for Mac.

So everyone, WIndows or Mac, is invited to become a beta tester. Watch this feed (blog) for general availability or email us for private beta access.

Problem is that Silverlight 2.0 isn't compatible with PPC, as far as I can tell. Any suggestions?

I would like to be a part of the beta test, if you need.

Cheers,
David

gGanttic for Linux?

Any plans for making this compatible with linux, also, through the Silverlight port for this OS (http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight)? It will make this really work for organizations, like mine, with all OS flavors coexisting. Long live diversity!

Carlos,
I have the good news to you.
When Moonlight reaches the state of full compatibility with Silverlight 2.0, gGanttic will work on Linux. So it is really not up to us the gGanttic team. We create an application to a framework that is somewhat cross-platform, and wait for it to spread to more and more platforms.

I am not pleading ignorance here. We do watch Moonlight progress. We do watch Mono, the mothership project of Moonlight, progress. Once gGanttic is popular with millions and we have to scale, I'd rather do it on a cheaper hosting. And Linux hosting tends to be cheaper then Windows. So Mono could become important to us on the server just like Moonlight is important to you on the client.
